YOUNG EARTH TALKING POINTS
BACK TO HOME PAGE

Web

Whatever Young Earth organization you are listening to, you are going to hear the exact same talking points used over and over again. Whether it is Ken Ham, Jason Lisle, Terry Mortenson, or Kent Hovind, you are going to hear the same arguments from them all.

You'll hear about the "huge tail that looks like a cedar tree" describing what they believe is a dinosaur in Job chapter 40.

You'll hear about "billions of dead things buried by rock layers laid down by water all over the earth," in an attempt to attribute the fossil record to Noah's flood.

You'll hear that Young Earth Creationists believe that Romans 5:20, "By one man sin entered into the world" means that there was no sin in the universe before Adam fell.

You'll hear the constant deliberate misquoting of Genesis 1:31 "And God saw everything that he had created and it was very good."

What we will do on this page is address each talking point given by the Young Earth Creationists. We will present the talking point, and using the Bible, the original Hebrew and Greek text, and good science, we will offer an answer to each point.

AND GOD SAW EVERYTHING HE HAD CREATED, AND IT WAS VERY GOOD

If you see nothing wrong with what these Young Earth leaders just said, then you are a PERFECT CANDIDATE for the Young Earth movement!

This is how every Young Earth teacher quotes Genesis 1:31, claiming that because everything was "very good" at the end of Genesis chapter one, there was no death before that point. But THAT IS NOT WHAT GOD SAYS IN THAT VERSE. Young Earth leaders have CHANGED THE WORDS in the verse to fit their Young Earth theory. The verse actually reads, "And God saw everything he had made, and behold it was very good." The words "created" and "made" do NOT mean the same thing, and they CANNOT be interchanged in Genesis chapter one. Yet Young Earth teachers consistently misquote God's Word!

And if you don't see anything wrong with it, then you are just to simple to understand the complexities of God's Word.

A HUGE TAIL THAT LOOKS LIKE A CEDAR TREE

Another example of how Young Earth teachers CHANGE THE MEANING of God's Word in order for the Bible text to fit their Young Earth theory!

The original Hebrew text (and the English translation) DOES NOT say that behemoth has a huge tail that "looks like a cedar tree." The verse does not contain a descriptive adjective. It contains an action verb. The verse says "he moveth his tail like a cedar." The verse NEVER DESCRIBES THE SIZE OF THE TAIL. And when the elephant walks, it's tail sways back and forth exactly like the ancient flexible Lebanese cedar tree bending in the wind.

Yet Young Earth leaders continue to change the wording of the Bible to fit their preconceived idea of what Job chapter 40 is describing..

BY ONE MAN SIN ENTERED INTO THE WORLD, AND DEATH BY SIN.

Young Earth teachers are careful to hide the real meaning of "the world" from their followers, because in this verse, it doesn't mean the planet earth.

In the original Hebrew text, the word "world" is "kosmos," which means the human family. The word "oikoumene" is NOT used in this verse, which means the physical globe we live on. The death spoken of in this verse is the spiritual death of humans, and has nothing to do with animals. The rest fo the verse confirms this fact. It reads, "and so that death passed upon all MEN, for that ALL HAVE SINNED." Animals can't sin, therefore this verse does NOT apply to animals.

You won't ever hear Ken Ham reading the second part of this verse because it conflicts with his young earth theory.
